Sleep apnea appliance is a custom-made dental device that helps keep your airway open while you are sleeping. It is a non-invasive treatment that is often used for people with mild to moderate obstructive sleep apnea, and in some cases, for people who have severe sleep apnea but cannot tolerate the CPAP machine. Sleep apnea is a concern because the airway becomes partially or completely blocked during sleep. This causes breathing to stop and start repeatedly. Some risks of sleep apnea are reduced oxygen levels during sleep, frequent waking during the night, loud snoring and/or gasping for air, daytime fatigue, and poor concentration.

If left untreated, sleep apnea can lead to various medical conditions such as high blood pressure, heart disease, stroke, diabetes, and more. Sleep apnea appliance works by gently repositioning the lower jaw and shifting the tongue forward to adequately open the airway. This positioning also prevents collapsing of the soft tissue in the throat, and allows uninterrupted and steady breathing.
